So, for some of you who know what this is, it’s a table-top Stand Alone Card Game created by Wizards of the coast. It’s a rather fun game, could use some more expansions, but that’s why me and my friend have created a template for the custom characters now.

For about 2 years fans have complained about the fact that there is no fan made one out there. Mainly since the designer was too lazy and couldn’t get off his ass to work on it and the fans still hoped. However, their hopes obviously weren’t answered and no one knows what the designer did with this great game. The point is, he needs to get to work on an actual damn expansion. So for now, here is how me and my friend have designed the template for creating your own character.

Alright, so here is the template.

Determining HP and Skill:

To determine HP and skill, we decided that instead of coming up with some kind of confusing calculation, to use characters and use their stats, punch, and chair attacks.

Power attacks and defenses will be chosen by you.

So…now for the list in no particular order! Just find one that suits your character!

HP: 9 Skill: 12+ Knockout Bonus: 3 VP

Punch: 1 OR 2 Damage

Chair: 3 OR 5 Damage

HP: 9 Skill: 11+ Knockout Bonus: 3 VP

Punch: 1 OR 2 Damage

Chair: 2 OR 3 Damage

HP: 7 Skill: 9+ Knockout Bonus: 4 VP

Punch: 3 OR 5 Damage

Chair: 1 OR 2 Damage

HP: 10 Skill: 11+ Knockout Bonus: 4 VP

Punch: 1 OR 3 Damage

Chair: 2 OR 4 Damage

HP: 7 Skill: 11+ Knockout Bonus: 3 VP

Chair: 1 OR 5 Damage

HP: 8 Skill: 12+ Knockout Bonus: 3 VP

Punch: 1 OR 2 Damage

Punch: 2 OR 4 Damage

Chair: 2 OR 5 Damage

HP: 9 Skill: 13+ Knockout Bonus: 4 VP

Punch: 1 OR 2 Damage; if no dice are showing Ale, 2 OR 3 Damage.

Chair: 2 OR 4 Damage

HP: 6 Skill: 13+ Knockout Bonus: 3 VP

Punch: 1 OR 3 Damage. Low: Take 1 Damage

Chair: 1 OR 4 Damage.

Power Skills: Power skills are obviously unique to some characters, but rather than making each card too similar, I have added this to the customizable part. The names for their power skills will not be said. This adds to personalization and lets you name it yourself.

(3 OR 5 Damage. High: Make another identical attack against any other target)

(2 OR 5 Damage; if you roll a 16+, you can steal a random card from the hand of the opponent who controls the target)

(2 OR 4 Damage, +1 damage for every die showing Ale)

(Take 1 damage, then deal 3 OR 6 damage)

(3 OR 6 damage; if you control at least one Bystander, the defender does not get a Defense roll)

(1 OR 3 damage, +2 damage for every Bystander you control)

(2 OR 6 damage. High: Target’s controller loses 1 VP)

(2 OR 4 damage; if the attack Knocks Out the target, make another attack that deals 2 OR 4 damage to any target)

(1 OR 6 damage, and heal HP equal to the number of dice showing Power)

(2 OR 4 damage; if two or more dice are showing Ale, the defender does not get a Defense roll)

(2 OR 4 Damage. If target is Evil, 5 OR 7 damage; Evil characters get no Defense roll)

(3 OR 4 damage, if the attack Knocks Out a target, draw a card)

(3 OR 4 damage; if you roll 18+, draw a card)

(1 OR 3 damage, +1 damage for every die showing Luck; no Defense roll)

(1 OR 3 damage, +1 damage for every opponent who has fewer VP)

Defense Dice: Some defenses have a Luck or Power requirement, or BOTH. In order to make things fair, we have sorted it by 3 sections: Luck, Power, and Either.

You cannot have two Lucks or Powers. You must choose one. If you want it to have two powers, you must choose one Luck and one Power. For example, if you want to use a skill that only works for luck, but there is one in either that works for both, you can use the luck skill and use the either choice as the power.

Bystander defenses will also be included. Also, we are only giving their effect, not the effect name. You can think that up on your own to personalize it more. Some effects however will be removed due to impossible rulings.)

****: Used in place of the character’s first name.

Luck:

(Attack misses, and all opponents lose 1 VP)

(Attack misses)

(Attack misses and instead hits another Bystander of your choice. The opponent still gets the VP, even for damaging or Knocking Out a Bystander he or she controls.)

(Attack misses, and the attacker takes damage equal to ****’s current HP)

(Attack misses, and the attacker takes 2 damage.)

(Attack misses, and attacker takes damage equal to the number of players)

(Attack misses, and both you and the attacker’s controller draw a card.)

(Attack deals only 1 damage, and attacker takes 3 damage.)

(Attack misses, and choose a character to your right to take 2 damage.)

(Attack misses, and each of your opponents must choose one of his or her characters to take 2 damage.)

(Attack misses, and you draw a card)

(Attack misses, and the attacker’s controller loses VP equal to the number of dice rolled for the attack)

(Attack misses, and every player rolls a d20. The highest roller draws a card)

(Attack misses, and you steal 1 VP from the attacker’s controller)

(Attack misses, but deals 2 damage to your Adventurer)

(Attack misses, and attacker’s controller loses 2 VP)

Power:

(Attack misses. Roll all Brawl Dice and add the total Punches and Powers. Each opponent must choose one of his or her characters to take that much damage.)

(Attack hits, but opponent does not get VP for the damage dealt)

(Attack misses, and deal 1 damage to the attacker for every die showing Punch)

(Attack misses; **** heals 4 HP)

(Attack misses; and **** can take control of a Bystander of your choice.)

Either:

(Attack hits, and the attacker takes 2 damage)

(Attack misses, and deal damage to the attacker equal to the number of dice used in the attack.)

(Reduce attack damage by 2)

(Attack misses, and deal 1 damage each to two targets of your choice)

(Attack misses, and deal damage to the attacker equal to the number of Bystanders you control)

(Attack misses **** but hits a Bystander of attacker’s choice, if the attacker wishes)

(Deal 1 damage to every other Adventurer for every die showing Power)

(Attack misses, and **** heals 1 HP. Gain 1 VP)

(Attack misses, and the attacker’s controller draws a card)

and that’s it, be sure to give credit if you use this and maybe spread word about it. If you wanna host this on your site, please give credit and link back here.

I’m definitely spreading the word about this… Both 3-Dragon Ante and Inn-Fighting have left their marks on every DnD group I’ve ever encountered in my area, and let me tell you that this template, as unofficial as it is, will be making a lot of people smile.

Any tips on font choices for the actual text?

Thank you, I will try improving this list too with my own custom skills and HP layouts to add more variety. As for the text.. I can’t think of any yet, I still have to scan a few things onto my computer, but I suggest maybe the Ariel font or Times New Roman.

Here’s my first try at this:

Garas, Human Drunken Master – (PNG) (JPG)

Obviously, I don’t own the rights to that image, but it’s the principle of the matter, really. I’m hoping that this first success will open the doors to a slew of other personalized Inn-fighting Adventurers.

Plus, Drunken Masters are fun.

Note on fonts: in the end, I had to copy and paste individual letters from scans of other cards in order to work out the respective fonts for HP/Skill/VPB and each Adventurer’s name. However, for everything else I used Caslon/AdobeCaslon. Worked out pretty well, I think, but there’s probably a font out there somewhere that matches up even closer to what’s on the cards… Maybe that’s just me being a perfectionist though.

I’ve created a MS Word document containing a character template.

I used http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ to determine the fonts, by uploading scanned lines of text. It looks like the font is “Ravenna” for the Adventurer’s name, and “Caxton Book” for the rest of the text.

Is there somewhere I can upload a MS Word document, or someone I can email it to, so it can be made available?

I have taken the template and improved it (it now has the power and Dice symbol) thanks to dark kitten for the good template.
