Bakugan: Life Gauge Rules

Posted by darkkittenproductions on August 13, 2009

Alright, so, for those of you who know, I like to do templates… especially alternate game rules.
So, today, while it seems rather kiddy in the eyes of many, I am going to put up a more fair ruling for a usually fan-made rule for Bakugan.

I’m mainly doing this as I look around a lot for a good well-balanced custom ruling for this. Sadly all I see is people making it in the favor of THEIR Bakugan.

So, here’s how this is going to go, some of you may have seen Bakugan: New Vestroia, those of you in America, probably have not.

The rule is the Life Gauge Rule.

Alright, so here’s how it goes, first off, the minimum requirements:

1 Bakugan
3 Gate Cards
3 Ability Cards
1 Trap (Optional)

So, how it goes is this, first you and your friends decide the number of your LG (Life Gauge). The minimum is 1000, however you may increase it in multiples of 500.
If you’re playing a big game, then it’s suggsted you go with 2000

Next, players decide on the number of Bakugan they’ll use, the maximum is 6.

Next, Gate Cards and Ability Cards. There is no maximum requirement, but all players MUST use the same amount of Gate Cards and Ability Cards.
Remember though, the numbers don’t have to be exact for Gate Cards and ability cards. You could have maybe…5 Gate Cards, and 10 Ability Cards.

Lastly, decide on the number of Traps if you’d like to use them. Even if someone doesn’t have traps, you are still allowed to use Traps. The maximum number is 3.

Now, onto battling. First off, I’d like to clarify some common rules:

- Rules involving Special Bakugan (Clear, Translucent, Pearl, etc.) remain intact.
- Throwing distances, it must remain at a minimum of 2 Cards away from the target.

Now, here are some MAJOR changes, so you’ll have to listen up.

- After a Battle Between 2 or More Bakugan is resolved, the gate card is NOT captured, it is put in the owner’s used pile, and the Bakugan is returned to them, not captured unless under the capturing ruling which will soon be mentioned.
- The same goes for Ability Cards, once they are used, they are put in the owner’s used zone.
- If as player cannot play any more Ability cards, they may move their used Ability cards back to their hand.
- If a player runs out of Gate Cards, the same occurs for Gate Cards.
- Once a battle is lost, the loser takes damage to their LG equal to the winning Bakugan’s G-Power at the time of victory.
- Bakugan that have been defeated can be re-used if they are not captured.
- If a Bakugan is knocked off the card, it is counted as defeated, but no damage will be given and the Gate Card remains in play.

Capturing Bakugan:

When a Bakugan loses a battle by 500 or more G-Power, the winner captures the loser’s Bakugan and returns it once the game is over. But the one who captures it CANNOT use it during the game.

Double and Triple Abilities:

To keep a fair method of using double abilities, you can use them as two abilities at the same time, but if they conflict with the other (such as using one that has to activate later on while also using one that has to activate at the exact moment, thus, they cannot be used since they cannot be used at the same time), you may not use them. The same applies for Triple Abilities. Also, during a battle, a player can activate up to 3 abilities.

Counter Abilities:

Counter Abilities are the same thing as using an ability card by taking turns, however, unlike the other ruling, once both players are done playing abilities, they can choose to activate another one and give their opponent the same option, this can be used up until both players have used 3 cards.

FAQ

Q – Two of my own Bakugan land on a gate card?
A: Your Bakugan return to you and the gate card goes in it’s owner’s used pile.

Q – All our Bakugan are on Gate Cards and we have no more to play?
A: Return all Bakugan that are on Gate Cards to their owners.

Q – I have no more Bakugan left to throw, most have been captured, but I have one in play, does that mean I lose?
A: No, the whole “stand” rule applies here. It stays in play as if you threw it that turn. Only if all your Bakugan are captured, you lose.

Q – Do the same rules of battling apply to this set of rulings?
A: Yes, everything except capturing Gate Cards and Bakugan (with the exception of the Capturing Bakugan rules) is played the way it is.

Deciding the winner:

A player is out of the game once either all their Bakugan have been captured (captured Bakugan return to the player after they are out) OR if their LG reaches 0, the last one still able to play wins the game.

Optional Rulings:

Large Bakugan – These are normally not allowed, but if other players agree on it, they can be used.

Special Conditions in 4-Player Battles.

- Mainly the only thing in 4-Player battles, is that the players decided a method of choosing who goes first and then deciding the play order from there, mainly via numerical values on dice rolls is the best way to go.

Next Pokemon League Season

Posted by darkkittenproductions on July 22, 2009

So while looking at the League events, I noticed passed the Metal Energy cycle that we will have something pretty unique this time for Pokemon League events.

Ranking; Rival, Trainer, Gym Leader, etc. seems to be the next kind of badge set.

Artist VS Card Battle

Posted by darkkittenproductions on July 15, 2009

‘ello peeps, hopefully some of you have been keeping up with my blog (as I’ve been barely updating), but as I said before, I have tried working on a personal card game for a bit, and some of you who go on Zazzle have already seen it. Soon there will be a page up about it (seeing as I’ve gone through trial and error attempts at making this game and still keeping the  concept of fair play with a set of custom cards). Another issue is publishing, I’ve tried looking allover Cafe Press, but it seems all their stuff has glossy print, and they don’t even have anything I can use to make into a card game. Until I came across Zazzle, which, with a few minutes of looking around, checking what they could do (and holy crap they can do a lot), and came across the business card sizes. In their sizes they have a Trading Card size, not only that, there are multiple choices for card quality, so of course, I went with premium as it is the kind used on Comic Paper, and finely keeps thinks such as ink from showing through the cards too much (while not an issue with this kind of card game, it is still bound to just ruin the overall quality of the back). So I present to you, Artist VS Card Battle, a game that includes many things to just be yourself. Currently I am writing a rule set-up for item cards and how the game goes, but please do not purchase them until I do.

Here is a preview of how a character card works:

Also, if youre wondering why I chose Red, Ive been reading too much Pokemon Adventures lately. At first I thought Meh, Pokemon with a manga seems too much like the anime. So I took a chance, read it, and man did I become such a fan of it.

So I took a chance, read it, and man did I become such a fan of it.Also, Red will be replaced after I get my tablet issue fixed, or at least borrow a friend's compatible tablet pen for a little while. After that, he will be replaced with Nero

And for those of you who are wondering about the D&D Inn-Fighting Template, I am going to make time this summer to work on some new stuff with a few friends of mine who are really big fans of D&D (I’m not so much of a fan entirely, but if it’s got bartenders beating the crap outta dwarves, I’m in.)

Shonen Jump Yu-Gi-Oh! News (MUST SEE FOR FANS)

Posted by darkkittenproductions on June 24, 2009

This issue of Shonen Jump has brought to light, many of the Yu-Gi-Oh Fans concerns for 5D’s and their questions about the Yugi Duelist Pack.

A quick message though, as this issue does not contain Tragodia as everyone thinks it will, it includes no promo card at all. Shonen Jump However shall be making up for this in the September issue where it’s confirmed that the promo card will be Elemental Hero Gaia.

Anyway, so far Yugi’s Duelist Pack does contain a copy of Dark Magician, so far we don’t know if it will be Arcana’s Dark Magician though. But we will however be seeing Dark Magician Girl’s third alternative artwork. It also contains Sorcerer of Dark Magic and Exchange.

Another news point is that we’ll be seeing the new Duel Disk around Fall 2009. So far I can spot the following:

Upgrades

- Life Point Meter now goes up to 5 Digits instead of the casual 4. Whether or not this spot will be used or not depends on how high your life points go.
- The dueling zone now has a card grip you can use to hold your cards tighter onto the duel disk.
- Classic Open and Close design from the original 1st Generation Duel Disk has returned.
- A non-loose Graveyard area.
- Spell or trap cards are inserted through the front of the duel disk making it harder to see the cards underneath for the opponent, and making it easier for the player to see.

Downgrades

- Seemingly flat design may be uncomfortable to use. (Trust me on this one, I cosplayed as Rua (Leo in the dub) for 3 days at Anime North, and my Duel Disk was made to be flat so it can stay on, it was however uncomfortable)
- Lack of a field card zone. (This may be corrected as like the rest of the duel disks, it is hidden on the bottom)
- Seems to have a lack of space for Card Sleeves. (This may also be corrected later on)

Shonen Jump February 2009 Review

Posted by darkkittenproductions on January 17, 2009

The time has come to jump ahead!

February 2009 Issue Cover

Alright, to start things off with the issue reviews, we have issue 2 in 2009. The February issue! These will be categorized by the Manga shown in order, as well as some articles. So without further ado…

Naruto – First off, Shonen Jump is seriously behind in Naruto that the March issue will see a HUGE jump by over 30 chapters. They are still at the searching for Sasuke point.
6/10 – Gets points for at least remaining good.

One Piece – Quite insane, as One Piece always is, though I do believe they are also very behind and may be jumping forward in March as well.
5/10 – Behind, and it’s getting tiring seeing Shonen Jump censor cleavage.

Slam Dunk – I am not really into these types of Manga, but I decided to try giving it a read, I must say that it is a pretty nice Manga, it’s also very funny as well.
8/10 – Cute story, nice cast of characters, and non-insane humor.

Yu Yu Hakasho – The characters are done with their training and decide to head home. But Yusuke is troubled by not fighting much anymore and seems to be tempted to pick fights. So he searches for help with his problem.
7/10 – I don’t read Yu Yu Hakasho much, but it is still a interesting story.

BoBoBo – Bo Bo – BoBo – Funny as hell, this series constantly amuses me with all the randomness that goes on.
9/10 – Very funny series, and I mean come on, we get to see Super BoBo! AKA, Super Market BoBo trained by Tuna!

Bleach – The Soul Reapers continue their fight with the Arrancars, Tsubaki is repaired and Orihime meets another person with the same powers as her. Captain Aizen however has his sights set on her.
8/10 – Good, but again, Matsumotou’s cleavage is horribly edited. Whoever does the editing for this needs to be fired because they make it too obvious.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX – Syrus continues his mathematical-continuity-challenged incorrect duel with Chazz, honestly, you have to friggin play the card game to understand the main issues with this chapter. The math is all wrong, and I’m not smart at math, it’s just obviously and clearly – severely wrong. Whoever does the translations for Yu-Gi-Oh GX’s manga needs to be fired for poor translation on top of their poor basic math skills.
3/10 – Nice story for it, but some pages got repeated over again for no apparent reason making it kind of confusing. Not only that, but the translations seem to be horribly done.

Promo Card: Your basic Naruto Uzumaki card, a one-shot effect you can abuse, as well as being the strongest Naruto when in injured status. Use him for his effect then beat the living crap out of him on purpose to get a 6/0 Genin with Clone Status and Growth.

Moe Franchises + Card Game = Moe Card Battle?

Posted by darkkittenproductions on January 15, 2009

When I checked the stats on the blog today, I noticed an interesting referrer. BT_Angelic_Hazard of the Disgaea Akai Tsuki forums posted a topic about a Disgaea trading card game mistakingly confusing my card project for the real thing. Though I have ditched that project. But one of the links BT posted seemed to catch my eye. An actual store link?! Well, pictures are a lot better than words so…

Well, looks like there are 3 series’ so far! Not much is known about each card game right now, but it’s obvious they are all from the same card game. I guess we’ll be seeing a UFS attempt with Moe characters in Japan! More news about this later once I get more info.

Edit: This is a card game called “Project Revolution and it does indeed include the mentioned franchises. It is literally a Moe Card Battle game.

Introducing the Shonen Jump Widget!

Posted by darkkittenproductions on January 13, 2009

Some of you may know, I am an avid Shonen Jump fan, always trying to get the issues every month whenever I can (Though sadly I miss a lot, but my new years resolution is to keep up with it and buy every issue from now on). So I decided to put up a information widget showing the current Monthly Shonen Jump and it’s included promo. As well as the Japanese one. This also includes the “Read Manga Online” updates as well. Plus a link to recent reviews (Which I will be reviewing every new issue at some point) as well as other content like the current Tegami Bachi OVA. I am still looking for more types of widgets to add, but I currently have no idea what to do for those. I have added some of Shriek’s OCG news into the side-bar as well, to show info on the Yu-Gi-Oh OCG in Japan, as well as videos. I have also added the UFS Tournament schedule.

A new year, a new setup for UFS at BKG.

Posted by darkkittenproductions on January 8, 2009

For those of you who know me personally, and participate in weekly UFS Tournaments I schedule at BKG, I have noticed many of you pay attention to my blog and come on here often, so I am making some time to get a message out to you. I know you’re subscribed probably, so this will probably reach your E-Mail pretty fast.

There are a couple of issues I am going to sort out in this post.

1. The time of the tournaments has changed from 6:00PM to 9:00PM – If this works out, then all will be fine and dandy, I know the older players are used to coming on time at 5:30PM though. If this doesn’t work out, it will be changed to 5:45PM. As such, each game will have a 35 Minute time limit. For kids and younger players, it is YOUR responsibility to tell your parents the time a tournament starts, not ours, if you’re late from a tournament, don’t cry about it or try to join in the middle, we know you think we’re being mean, but it just doesn’t work like that! If this time change causes problems such as a tournament not finishing in time, it will go back to the normal time, and it will be YOUR responsibility again.
2. Justin is now a scout as well, so treat him that way, if you need to ask any of us for ruling help, just simply ask.
3. Due to time limit changes and proper rulings; the tournaments rounds will not continue until the time is up. As such, if the opponent you are going to face next has completed their game, you are not to jump in and begin your match, you will wait until the time is up. This gives you time to do something you need to do urgently.
4. Tournaments will begin being posted on this site on the sidebar, they will state the date of the event and the type of event.
5. For the young players… It has taken me time and time again to try and get this message to you guys, but I believe it’s about time I got more serious about this one: Stop asking for more promo cards!!! There are many good reasons you should cut this out and learn that NO means NO!.
- Everyone gets one promo card, I don’t care how old you are, hell, I don’t care if your parents think it’s unfair that their little kid doesn’t get an exception, this game is not meant for little kids, that’s a fact, UFS is a card game clearly aimed at a teenage and adult audience, hence why there are barely any children who play it at all. Your age makes no difference, you get one promo card, that’s it. If you want more, try to aim for the top 3 in a tournament.
- We give you 2 promo cards sometimes, that’s us being generous, we have a kind side, but we dislike how you guys try to abuse this!
- We give you good enough promo cards! Haven’t you noticed that most of the promos we give out are from great events? We could give you some of the crappier old ones, but we don’t, we always put a large number of hard to find tournament exclusive cards in the random one-card all players get, just because an older player got a better one, doesn’t mean we’re being mean, it’s pure chance!
6. We are planning to do much bigger events, so keep paying attention here to find out which big events we’ll have!
7. Start getting used to the sanctioned format! It’s 2009, a lot more of your cards will be banned from these events in March, as you all know, we run things like this: We schedule sanctioned events, we get new cards and promos for the current format, but we really do legacy events so you guys can use your old cards. But we also do it to teach you a lesson, the more you use those old cards, the more likely you are to face someone with a pro-level deck, which, is the reason I’ve seen many of you lose, and complain. We expect ALL players to use decks in the current rotation, if you do not, you will not be allowed to enter a tournament.

I hope I made that all clear, and that you guys learned from this.

Phantom Brave gets ported to the Wii

Posted by darkkittenproductions on December 21, 2008

Phantom Brave is getting a Nintendo Wii port of it’s PS2 game. The port will most likely feature more character cameos, and will also include a new element. Unfortunately; Nippon Ichi fails to listen to it’s fans plees of a port that has WiFi and Online battles. Personally, if you want Phantom Brave, try the PS2 version and don’t waste your time with a un-needed Wii Port. A DS port would have been a better idea, but who knows, it isn’t out yet so all we can do is wait for more information.
